A European Army for Ukraine?

So the UK PM Sir Keir Starmer brokered European crisis summit in London took place yesterday and let’s take a moment to reflect on what, if anything, was achieved.

According to Starmer, all participants have agreed to the following;

1. Keep military aid flowing into Ukraine and increase economic pressure on Russia

This means the grift keeps on flowing and those who benefit from it within Ukraine and in other places can look forward to further juicy kickbacks. The vast sums of money laundered into and then out of Ukraine will not be stopping anytime soon. The idea that this puts “economic pressure on Russia” is insane. In 2024, the Russian economy grew by 4.1%. And that of the EU applying all this imaginary financial pressure replete with sanctions - well 0.7%.

2. Ensure any lasting peace protects Ukraine's sovereignty and security, and Ukraine must be at the table for any peace talks

This piece of pious claptrap ignores that fact that for there to be any chance of a “lasting peace” Russia will also need assurances about its sovereignty and security. That translates as NO NATO and NO European forces in Ukraine. The insistence that Ukraine “must” be at the table for peace talks is also an illusion that is being created. The US and Russia will decide on the terms of peace and Ukraine will have to go along with them. Ukraine is NOT an equal partner in this situation - it is being propped up by the United States. Starmer and his clown assembly ignore that.

3. Deter any future invasion by Russia into Ukraine by strengthening its defences in the event of a peace deal

What does this mean, exactly? It presents Russia as a perpetual enemy which is not necessarily how President Trump sees it. What “defence” is being strengthened and how will Russia agree to this? Furthermore, who will be doing this “strengthening”?

4. Establish a "coalition of the willing" to defend Ukraine and guarantee peace in the country, with urgent planning on this now underway

This “coalition of the willing” sounds very much like some sort of European Army and implies that it will be positioned INSIDE Ukraine territory. There is simply no way that Russia would accept this and rightly so. Ukraine is not a NATO member so this would be seen for what it is - the EU seeking to place military force on Russian borders. It is the Europeans who harbour military expansionism.

5. Meet again soon

Starmer is absolutely loving this media grandstanding and playing the role of being the “bridge” to the White House. At a time when he refuses to protect British borders, his commitment to Ukrainian borders is revealing.
