I suppose the instant dopamine hit of a viral post on social media is hard to ignore and like any drug, it lures you into doing more hoping you will hit pay dirt again. However, is it worth is? I have concluded that MOST social media is heavily curated and it’s often fake as can be. Numbers are illusionary and you are as likely to be as algorithmically throttled in 2024 as was the case in 2014. Owners might change but the tune remains the same. Instead of censored, it is now all about “freedom of speech not freedom of reach”! But isn’t that Orwellian because in essence you are being told that you can write what you want but no one might see it in the worst possible case or only “selected” numbers may see it.
In a way, Elon Musk is Jack Dorsey with a more nuanced nightmare to sell us all.
And that is why I have decided to start this proper David Vance substack up. I want to be confident I can connect with you and hope that the feeling is reciprocated. I also want to talk about whatever I want, free of the chains of self-censorship. In a way, those represent the most odious forms of censorship because you just know if you say the unapproved word then - BANG - the algo is gonna get you!
Looking forward to reading your articles!
So if you've decided to restrict your use of social media why are you still spewing out your appalling shite on Twitter/X?
