I was sickened by the Government’s decision to halt inquiries into the mainly Muslim “rape gangs" scandal which I see it as a cynical politically motivated betrayal of their victims.

Back in January Home Secretary Yvette Cooper pledged £5 million to fund five local inquiries modelled on the Telford investigation, which had exposed decades of systemic child sexual exploitation. This promise came amid intense pressure, including from figures like Elon Musk, following revelations of widespread abuse in towns like Rochdale, Rotherham, and Oldham.

What was wanted was a full NATIONAL inquiry but we were offered five local inquiries. Then.

Yesterday Home Office Minister Jess Phillips announced a ludicrous pivot to a "flexible approach," reallocating the funds into a discretionary pot for local councils to use as they see fit—potentially for inquiries, but also for vague alternatives like "victims’ panels" or "locally led audits." This was done on the same day that Parliament went into recess so no awkward questions could be asked. The cynicism is off the scale.
