Sky high!

So I’m sitting on a flight to London and it’s a perfect opportunity to write a little substack! It’s a blue sky outside and as always I marvel as the airplane takes off and I see the land from altitude. And that got me thinking about how we all see our lives!

Perspective is the key! When we go about our daily lives and our everyday activities, we are at ground level. Understandably so. Money has to be earned, we have our daily commitments and obligations, and there is that buzz of the everyday. However I think we have to also take in that higher view.

Some call it spirituality, others Faith, but its ultimately an understanding of a higher power, a greater perspective. And I think it’s something humanity has understood from the beginning of time! I believe it’s what separates us from the rest of the animal kingdom. As I age, my Faith has been rekindled and I am more certain than ever of the need to look down on my life and how I spend my time. The things that really matter are not the everyday things, which is not to say they aren’t important. No, we thrive when we get the balance of higher power and the everyday!

Where is happiness found? In all areas of life! In doing right by others, in standing up for Right, in scolding evil, in little acts of kindness, in the love of family and friends. You can’t see it, but you can feel it. That’s why the physical traipsing of success are limited.

I remember my 90 year grandmother Vance. She was the most influential figure on the younger me. A humble mill-worker, she brought up a family despite losing her husband at an early age. I am named after him. She had modest possessions in this world but she was content and had her Faith. She was practical and sensible (not sure I take after her) and she had many friends. Through physical infirmity she rarely left her little house - but there were always people visiting her. Her kindness was obvious to all. And if we were all like that I think the world we would be a much better place. No judging others, no anger, just a satisfaction of doing the right thing.
