TV doctor Michael Mosley perished in the intense heat of a Greek island last week. It appears that he made an ill-timed journey, on his own, without a phone, and got disorientated in the high temperatures before collapsing and dying. There are some odd aspects to this death which I will explore in a minute but the decent thing to do is to express sympathy to his family on his loss. I always think it has to be extra hard when a “Celeb” dies in this way and the event is trawled over by the media even as they have to deal with the loss.
That said, when I look at the mainstream media, and the The Mail in particular, you could be forgiven for thinking he was still alive. Let’s just look at todays paper…
As you can see, they are running a SERIES on Mosley “tips”.
It’s not just the Mail. Take the BBC itself….
Was he a genius? I don’t think we can quite claim that UNLESS you think this was “genius”..
Dr Mosley was very quick off the mark with THIS book which was published in May 2020.
Dr Mosley is reputed to have told unvaccinated friends to stay away from his house.
So I think he was certainly fast off the mark to push for the vaccine but I don’t think that is genius.
Back to the oddities about his death. He was out for lunch with family and friends. He decided he would leave them and walk home himself. In the height of the heat. Why? He did NOT have a mobile phone with him so he could not be contacted. Why? His wife - also a doctor - seems to have gone along with his solo journey back to the villa in which they were staying. Why?
I can understand the importance of exercise but surely there were other ways to get it than a trek in the intense heat of the day? In fairness he did have an umbrella with him to keep the penetrating sun off him. It clearly was not enough. His body was found a very short distance from a small marina so he tragically died within shouting distance of help.
I find so much about this story odd. I find the fact that Mosley eventually qualified as a doctor but never practised as a doctor curious. His media career was stellar and he did some good work for sure but his strange lonely death casts a pall over of that. If he had have taken his mobile phone with him he could have called for help. But he didn’t.
Not far from where he was found, there are a set of caves known locally as “the abyss”.
It’s a funny old world.
