The two-child welfare limit is making major news headlines in the UK as all the political parties triangulate around the issue so I thought we could start with considering what it actually is!
It was introduced back in April 2017 as part of the UK’s welfare reforms under the Conservative government and it restricted Universal Credit and Child Tax Credit payments to only the first two children in most low-income families.
It seemed a very sensible idea for reasons that will become clear as we dive a little deeper into this controversial topic. If you have more than two kids, then you should be able to afford them rather than expect the taxpayer to pick up the tab for your fecundity.
