First, a little background on the English city called Bradford.
Bradford's history is one of growth and development, starting as a small village in Saxon times and transforming into a major industrial city by the 19th century. Its name, "Broad Ford," refers to a crossing of the Bradford Beck. The city's woolen trade played a significant role in its industrial expansion, and Bradford became a major wool-buying centre. The Brontë sisters, the famous novelists, were born in Thornton, a nearby village, which was then part of the Bradford area.
But things have changed in Bradford, a lot. By 2021, the Bradford district's population was 546,400. Of this, 30.5% identified as Muslim, according to the 2021 census data. This makes Bradford a city with a very significant Muslim population and that needs to be born in mind when we read stories like this..
