I know, I know, that’s crazy talk. I think democracy is dangerous and I increasingly feel that voting makes it worse. Let me explain my reasoning to you so that at least you can understand where I coming from.
Let’s start with Plato, shall we? In his famous “Republic”, which is written as a dialogue, one of the key characters is Socrates. In Book VIII, Socrates argues that democracy gives rise to tyranny. He was half right. I think tyranny uses democracy to advance its wicked agenda and with the perfect excuse that if you don’t like what is happening to you, well then you can always vote to change it. Except real choice is never allowed and the best you get is to choose between two teams who have similar agendas. So choice is illusionary but it keeps the plebs happy, as Plato might have said.
Another worrying aspect of democracy is that of mob rule. The biggest mob gets to rule over smaller groups and to implement things that significant numbers of people don’t want to see. Covid tyranny was a great example of this, when those of us who opposed all the rituals of Covid were basically bullied by the State because the majority went with it. Our fellow human beings stupidity was weaponised against us, and this will continue to happen. When people are fearful, they turn to Government for protection at any price. Tyrannical Government loves this, in fact it encourages them to frighten the population.
My problem with voting is that all it ever does is a give a veneer of respectability and endorsement to the predator class. Consider what happened in late 2019, when Boris Johnson won a thumping majority because so many thought voting Conservative was the right thing to do. Within 3 months he took that massive mandate and put us all under de facto house arrest. Votes weaponised against the voters.
We are all brought up to believe that democracy is desirable and voting an almost sacred duty. Well, it may be a heresy but I beg to differ!
I for one enjoy your podcasts David, you say it as you see it and people can make their own mind up. I can not see any point in hurling insults about. Let's have some more discussion about the so called climate emergency which has been going on for over 30 years now
So you're not a fan of democracy, but you are a fan of charismatic autocrats with ultranationalist politics. Gotcha. There's a word for that, isn't there? 🤔
