If there is one thing I despise about the main social media platforms such as X, YouTube and Facebook, it’s their hateful algorithms. These are the invisible controls that lurk in the background and which upweight or (more likely) down-weight your creative comment based on how much you appease the narrative. Elon Musk may boast about creative freedom on X but my experience suggests that even writing about SOME topics will result in suppression of the account. Stick to the well trampled path. Well not me.
As someone who instinctively hates being directed anywhere, I find Substack more honest and enjoyable. In essence, I write what I want to write and you guys get to see it and then, if you want, express a view on it. I don’t think topics are hidden just because they challenge narrative here. I have a sense of being free to say what I want and that’s NOT the case elsewhere. This is why I have big plans to expand my Substack in 2025, it feels like the right move to make and if you enjoy what I do here, perhaps more of you will subscribe to my channel.
I know that Substack revolves around the written word, which is good, but I intend to keep putting out my hybrid mix of video, podcasts and articles. It gives maximum creative scope. So thanks for all your support here!
I agree. For the time being Substack is the place to be. However if the "plebs" turn up here the owners will come under pressure to adjust the algorithm to push the narratives the govt want.
I completely agree with what you say in this post. I find X to be a deeply censoring app. For whatever reason and I don’t care what it is. I always vote with my feet. One bad haircut and I will show myself out. I really like and am comfortable with Substack. Plus I feel safer here that there - and are no ppl lurking to judge me for my conservative views or occasionally perhaps unthinkingly - saying thewrong thing.
