The US is multi-cultural because many of the people who immigrated here retained the culture they were brought up in in their country of origin. I don't think that's a bad thing. On the contrary, I believe it makes the US culturally richer and more interesting than if we had limited our culture to white Anglo Saxon Protestant.
When I think of Multicultural- ISM I remember the dissolution of the Former Yugoslavia and then Sarajevo. The people pleaded for help from countries that shortly prior ti horrific civil war had enjoyed their beautiful Olympics.
I think refusal to assimilate becomes a problem when the numbers are too much for the home culture to take in. But I don't know exactly what happened in the former Yugoslavia. Were they dealing with a huge influx of immigrants? Or had those different cultures, Christian and Muslim, been there for decades, or hundreds of years?
I'd start by shutting down all the halal slaughter abbatoirs and ban the import of such meat. Prepare for the repercussions, deal with them, and then go from there.
