Decades of academic research and dissemination have attempted to make ethics purely situational, or structural. The idea that people do what they do, for good or ill, because of societal and economic pressures; they merely respond to impersonal forces like capitalism, ideology, etc., and everybody would act the same under similar circumstances. Thus, if we create absolute equality, we will all act the same and treat each other with similar levels of kindness and respect.
Well, it's a theory, I guess. But what it ignores is the clear evidence, known to everyone with common sense, that people have different levels of moral acumen and reliability. We carry with us a capacity for morality which is more or less fixed, and which is very hard to change without a great deal of personal hard work. We've always known this. As you say, wrong 'un. Dodgy geezer, nasty piece of work, punk, cad, bounder, blackguard, etc., etc.
And they stick together because they find use in one another. Which it is why it is so important that the difficult questions go directly to Starmer. You'd have to be either stupid or malign to appoint Mandelson to anything, and Starmer appears to be both.
I truly hope that justice prevails and that this creature ends up in a really nasty jail for the entirety of his life but we all know that will not happen. Starbot may well don his former cap as human rights lawyer and save Mandy from the ever deserving prison justice because of his health/age/human rights. The rest of us mortals would be left to dwell for eternity in some dank and dark shit hole but justice never happens to these monsters. Still, we can dream.

Now if the scumbags were ALL brought to justice, especially for premeditatedly making people's lives financially more difficult, seemingly for personal gain, over the decades - it would be a positive start to earn trust.
