Jeffrey Sachs has said that the US and NATO committed the worst foreign policy mistake in history by not welcoming Russia into NATO after they had thrown off communism. They defeated communism! But we thumbed our noses at them and still considered them an enemy. We promised Russia in the early 1990's that we would not move NATO one inch east of Germany. Guess how many NATO countries there are today that are east of Germany. Thirteen! No wonder Russia sees the US and NATO as aggressors, and is concerned about its own security as a country. I say yes, let the US leave NATO. Let NATO dissolve for all I care.

NATO Treaty

"Article 1

The Parties undertake, as set forth in the Charter of the United Nations, to settle any

international dispute in which they may be involved by peaceful means in such a manner

that international peace and security and justice are not endangered, and to refrain in their

international relations from the threat or use of force in any manner inconsistent with the

purposes of the United Nations."

If I were the USA, I would leave on the basis that the other members of NATO have departed from Article 1. They should set an example and form a new alliance, as you say, of peaceful countries.

Yes, the United States should leave NATO, besides it being a threat to world peace, just imagine the money that would be saved and placed back into America for the infrastructure and manufacturing.
