The setup seems to have been partly to blame on, Roger Stone, who was seeking a second pardon afterwards.. Why? There seems to have been a move on to engineer the presidential slot for General Mike Flynn. Sydney Powell had a hand in it as she and others attempted to get Trump to sign the insurrection act. There was the narrative at the time, that the voting machines were being hacked and miscounting the ballots. Had Trump called in the National Guard and seized the machines, the vote tally would have been found to have matched the hand count and Trump could have been found guilty and stood trial for treason.
Only for Trump being talked out of signing the act, we might be in different times..
