Nobody can be that surprised at the news that the number of people claiming Universal Credit has exploded under Keir Starmer’s useless Labour government.
It has soared to a staggering 8.4 million at the end of last year. This is up more than 1 million in just one year, and by a shocking 1.5 million since these incompetents slithered into power in July 2024. Just think 1.5m MORE welfare recipients!! That’s why your taxes have to rise, you have to fund this welfare jamboree.
And it gets even worse! You see the real scandal is that nearly half of these claimants – a massive 4.17 million now – are not required to lift a finger to look for work. That’s up from just 3.06 million a year ago. Sloth is institutionalised. By contrast, the number of people actually in work claiming Universal Credit has dropped slightly to 2.19 million.
The simple truth is that Labour’s so-called “reforms” have turned Britain into a welfare paradise for the lazy. This disastrous surge – the biggest annual jump since the scamdemic – comes hot on the heels of Rachel Reeves’s infamous “Benefits Street” Budget.
What have we go to show for 18 months of Hard Labour? We’ve got spiralling welfare costs, more dependency, and a system that rewards staying on the dole. Labour loves to bleat that they “inherited a broken system” from the Conservatives, but after 18 months in charge, the numbers prove they’ve made it far worse. Their mediocre tweaks – like shuffling 1,000 work coaches around or vague promises to “rebalance” payments – are laughable. Its just vacuous window-dressing while the welfare rolls keep swelling and mental health claims (among others) drive the explosion.
Thanks to Starmer and Reeves, our country is hurtling towards an unsustainable benefits bonfire. This is financed by squeezed workers and businesses already crushed by Labour’s tax raid. Starmer and Reeves are presiding over national decline, one handout at a time.
So Reeves jacks up Employer NI (not a tax rise mind you), essentially forcing employers to cut staff and forget about hiring students or work placements. Then Labour create a "training" scheme for the hospitality sector - creating yet more government payroll jobs to fill gaps in the hospitality market created by Reeves' budget. And what they fail to acknowledge is the reduction in people going out because of this recession they've created.

Of course qualification for pension has to be put back as the country can’t afford it.
But migrants? That’s a different story.
