It is no surprise that the simpering Russia apologist David Vance gives Putin's public relations exercise a credulous and shallow reception. For somebody who loves to call himself a critical thinker, Vance is remarkably incapable of detecting Kremlin propaganda, even when Putin literally justifies the Nazi invasion of Poland by claiming that 'Poland pushed them too far'. This article is a sickening display of dictator worship, fawning over a man guilty of mass murder, political assassinations, suppression of democracy and the abolition of the free press. Vance is either a fan of tyrants or deeply, tragically naive.

"I conclude that Russia is a formidable force and had the West any sense, it would seek to be an ally rather than an enemy of Putin."

Jeffrey Sachs and many others, both in academia and government, regard the failure of the West to befriend Russia after the Soviet Union broke apart as being one of the greatest failures of diplomacy and foreign policy in history. What were they thinking? The Russian people brought down the communist government that the West was supposedly at war with (cold war) for decades. They defeated that regime. We should have welcomed them with open arms. Instead, we lied to them, telling them we would never move NATO one inch east of Germany. Guess how many NATO countries there are today that are east of Germany. Thirteen! What would the US do if China entered into an alliance with Mexico and Canada, and installed missile bases just across our border in Mexico and Canada?
