I remember watching this in Jaycees (pub in Nottingham) on the little TVs some pubs had then. I thought then the money wouldn't go to the right place so didn't get involved and just carried on drinking me beer. It was all about them, Stink, Bonio, Geldoff and the like. I think George Michael may have been genuine though. Wasn't there a photo of Geldoff handing over bags of cash to some dictator.
I have never liked Geldof, he is a typical loonie leftie virtue signalling “creep” (to use his word for President Trump & Elon Musk)
Personally I watched very little of this concert myself, and deep down I knew the majority of the funding raised would be misused or to be more frank stolen.
Consider too that in 2016-19, Geldof was almost constantly lambasting the 'selfish old people' who had voted for Brexit.....
........conveniently forgetting that these were the same people who were 17-28yrs old in the mid-1980s, the ones who supported his preposterous, self-aggrandising project.
Yes, Bob Geldof is a complete libtard shyster - only marginally less sanctimonious than Bono - would not give him the steam of my micturation.
I was a kid at the time and believed Ethiopia was a barren wasteland. It wasn’t. I believed these celebrities were good guys. I didn’t know they were allowed to charge ‘expenses’ of first class flights and luxury hotel suites for themselves and their hangers on. And you’re right about the PR bounce. Now when I see these grifts it makes me queezy. Multi millionaire celebrities ’give’ their time but it’s us proles who are expected to give our money. If Bono, et al care so much how about paying some tax and helping out of their own pockets.
If it had not been for Live Aid, Bob Geldof would not be a multi-millionaire. It allowed him to become part of the establishment and form a TV production company which made him rich.
But for Live Aid he would now be pedalling his old hits around small clubs to earn a living. He benefited a million times over than any starving African child did.
He may not have intended this when he formed Band Aid but he sure as hell grabbed the chance to make a fortune on the back of it.
As the Chumbawumba song said 'Pictures of starving African children sell records".
Yep, I was there! It was beyond efficiently organised, not by Geldof but the usual technicians behind the scenes. And there was Diana bopping away, with Charlie boy looking down his nose. Then we had Sport Aid don’t forget. Several years if I recall well.
Skip forward a few years to all the ‘suicides’ in his space.
Oh and Tedros (ex Ethiopian Tigrayan) is now Director of the WHO - hmmmmm
Good point!!!
Was this the start of drug-addled millionaires telling working class people to hand over their money?
It was definitely the start of the corporate sanitisation of pop/rock culture
I think that’s been going on a wee bit longer
Doesn’t the live aid logo look ever so similar to the United Nations logo?

Geldoff clearly suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Geldoff gives me the creeps, always has. He manages to look sleazy and unwashed, and the aggression and hypocrisy in his opinions is astounding.
Be glad for the subject of Live Aid to leave the building, as Geldoff hasn't done anything of note since, including bathe.

Oh and how many charities is he involved with??
